History of UNIC

The University of Comilla (UNIC)

The University of Comilla (UNIC) is one of the leading private universities in Bangladesh. It was established in 1995 under the Private University Act of 1992 by the Comilla Education Science & Technology Development Trust (COESTDT)—a charitable, non-profit, non-commercial, and non-political organization.

In accordance with the Private University Act of 2010, COESTDT was restructured and renamed as The University of Comilla Trust (UNICT). This Trust remains a non-political, non-profit, voluntary organization, registered under the Trust Registration Act XXI of 1860, and recognized by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The Trust is composed of a group of distinguished patrons of education, notable philanthropists, eminent industrialists, justices, experienced academics, and senior civil servants of the country. Their collective vision dates back to early 1988 when they aspired to establish a world-class center for higher education in the private sector.
